SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT 2024 - 2025

The completion of a home/school compact is an essential component of the program. This compact outlines how the parents/guardians, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve at high standards.
 
Schools Responsibilities :
Swatara Middle School will:
  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement as follow:
    • An approved curriculum that aligns with state standards
    • Research-based instructional programs
    • Highly qualified teacher to implement the curriculum
    • Technology/Device for virtual/distance learning and information on internet options
    • Flexible office hours to assist family learning needs
  2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Conferences will be held in November 2023 and March 2024.
  3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. Report cards will be available online four times per year at the end of each marking period.
  4. Provide parents/guardians reasonable access to staff. Staff members will be available via e-mail, by phone, or scheduled meetings. Contact information for each school is available on the District Website, www.cdschools.org and HAC (Home Access Center)
  5. Provide parents’ opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities as described in the school handbook following the guidelines set forth in the Health and Safety Plan.
Parent Responsibilities:
Parents will support their children’s learning in the following ways:
  • Monitor student attendance.
  • Ensure schoolwork and homework is complete.
  • Monitor time on television and electronic devices.
  • Volunteer at the school or in the classroom. Join the PTO.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to your child’s education.
  • Promoting positive use of your child’s extracurricular time.
  • Staying informed about your child’s education and communicating with the school by reading all notices from school or district and responding in a timely manner.
  • Serving, when available, on parent discussion groups.
  • Attending school-sponsored workshops.
  • Virtual/Distance Learning-provide appropriate space for distance learning at home, utilize teacher office hours for assistance, respond to teacher communication.
Student Responsibilities:
Students at Swatara Middle School will share the responsibility to improve their academic
achievement and achieve Pennsylvania’s high standards. Specifically, students will:
  • Bring their book bags and materials to and from school as necessary.
  • Do their homework every day and ask for help when needed.
  • Read every day outside of school time
  • Practice math facts every day outside of school time.
  • Give parents/guardians all notices and information received from the school every day.
